Durham PreK recently visited one of our sites, Kids ‘R’ Kids, and spoke to a parent about the impact the program has had on her child. She highlights her experience with the program as well as some key components that she enjoys. She feels confident that the program is preparing her daughter for kindergarten as well. Read her testimonial below.
How did you hear about Durham PreK?
“I heard about Durham PreK through the internet, because we had just moved here from New York and it was the first time we were putting our child in school. We found this online so we came and visited and heard it was the first year they were doing the program so we thought that was going to be nice for our child. We loved the feeling and everything of this center and how they explained how they were going to get our kids ready for kindergarten.”
How has Durham PreK impacted your child?
“Oh my gosh, I have a really feisty little one, and she has done amazing here. Sometimes she comes home and the things she’s learned I can’t even believe it. I’ve absolutely love this program she’s in.”
What are some of the key components that you enjoy about the program?
“All of it. It’s very dynamic in the way that there’s people from every different background. I come from New York so it was important for my child to not just have one sort of background that she was around. My daughter is half Spanish and so she likes talking in Spanish with her friends and other classmates. I love the parent-teacher involvement, with the little concerts and holiday things they do here. The learning and education too, I’m shocked by what she can do here. She’s already spelling her name, she’s four years old and her name is a complicated name. A lot of things she’s learned and the education has surprised me for Pre-K, that’s the big thing.”
Would you say your child is better prepared for Kindergarten? If so, how?
“Yes. I’m told she’s already at a first-grade reading level and she’s reading books at home. I know there is some memorization involved in that when we’re reading the same books over again, but when I’m pointing to words, simple words like ‘bed’, ‘read’, ‘book’, she absolutely knows the words.”
Would you recommend Durham PreK to a friend or family member?
“Yeah, absolutely!”
