Randy's Five Star Academy

A message from the director:

Randy’s Five Star Academy (formerly called Little People Day Care Center Inc.) began in 1995 on Tyne Drive as a Family Child Care Home (FCCH). We first opened our doors to serve infants to 5-year-olds. With quality our focus we receive NAFCC Accreditation. To better serve the needs of the community, that small FCCH grew to a small center serving 12 children and received a 5-star License. On July 9, 2002 we opened Little People 2 on Wake Forest Hwy. Little People 2 became a 5-star center serving children 2 years to 5-year-olds. January 5, 2009, Little People 1 and 2 relocated to the East Parkside Plaza on Hwy 70. We are a 5-star center serving children from birth to 12 years old.

We at Randy’s Five Star Academy create relationships and bond not only with the children who attend the center, but also with their families, and that bond lasts forever.

Our team at Randy’s is here to create an environment where children feel safe and secure so they can learn while playing and exploring in addition to interactions with peers and teachers. Randy’s is like a continuation from their home, we care about their cultures and beliefs and want to know about how we can serve families better.

One of the highlights is that our director, Dalphia Murphy, and staff build relationships with families. Nothing makes us happier than families returning to us or when they recommend us to other families to trust us with their children.

Program

In August 2019, Randy’s Five Star Academy was selected as a Durham PreK site. There are 2 pre-K classrooms, Sunflowers and Cool Cats, with a lead teacher and teachers assistant in each classroom. In our pre-K classrooms, we set high expectations for our children and teach school readiness in all developmental domains. We educate our children using Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies to educate their little minds. Our parents have access to Class Dojo, this is a great bridge between home and school. Teachers can update parents and caregivers throughout the day with photos, videos, and other important information. This is a great way to communicate with parents and caregivers daily and for children to earn Dojo points for performing different kinds of tasks in the classroom. (ex. Kindness award, Job Performance etc.)

We also offer a program called Ready Rosie. This enables our teachers to reach families on a personal level to share videos with activities that families can do together. Parents also has access to Teaching Strategies Gold, where they can view our weekly lesson plans and other resources.

We have professional organizations come into the center and offer services like vision and dental screenings and Spoken-4 Communications to our children.
