Overview of Opportunities

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee is all about creating connections, spreading awareness, and expanding the reach of Durham PreK. By joining this committee, you can take part in planning outreach and application events, such as our Roll Up and Enroll and Family Info Sessions, that help more families discover and access our high-quality preschool programs. The Outreach Committee works closely with local agencies to form partnerships, making sure that Durham PreK becomes accessible to as many children as possible. As a member of the Outreach Committee, you'll have the unique opportunity to voice your ideas and foster community connections. 

If you are passionate about ensuring that every child gets the best possible start in their educational journey, the Outreach Committee is the perfect place for you to make a meaningful impact. 

Schedule: Last Thursday of every month, 2:00-3:00 PM

Quality Subcommittee

The Quality Subcommittee focuses on continuous improvement and excellence in early education. This subcommittee examines the latest research and program needs to develop and enhance quality standards and policies. Their work forms the foundation of our commitment to providing the best possible learning experiences for our little learners.

The recommendations from the Durham Community Early Education/Preschool Task Force report serve as a guiding light for the Quality Subcommittee's efforts. Your insights and expertise can help shape the future of our preschool program, ensuring that parent voices remain at the forefront of early childhood education. This committee is ideal for families who are enthusiastic about advocating for exceptional educational standards.

Schedule: Second Thursday of October, December, February, April, and June; 12:00-2:00 PM

Governance Committee - nominations now open!

The Governance Committee plays a pivotal role in providing vision and direction to the entire Durham County preschool expansion effort. This committee advises and approves plans, strategies, standards, and policies for Durham PreK. The Governance Committee works closely with its advisory committees to create an inclusive, community-driven initiative. 

Your involvement in the Governance Committee can help strengthen public engagement and shape the future of preschool services in Durham. If you have a passion for creating positive change and are excited about being part of transformative decision-making, this committee is the perfect platform for your contributions. Nominations for membership to the Governance Committee are accepted throughout the year; however, terms for rotating membership begin in November each year. Applicants are encouraged to apply early for potential nomination to serve.
